CAD and CAE data: start with a scope and rights review

Rightmark reviews the engineering records a company made while designing and testing its own parts and products: native CAD models with their feature tree, the drawings used to make the parts, and CAE results such as finite element, fluid and thermal runs, with their setups. You start a review by describing them in words, never with files.

A CAD or CAE review starts with a preliminary scope and rights description: what engineering records exist, the workflow history and who owns them. You send it through the Something else path of the appraisal. Specialist review comes first, so no project files are requested or sent at this stage.

  • On the appraisal's Something else path, a description goes to case-by-case review, and we reply within two business days. Rightmark,

Complete engineering records fit, not loose files

The engineering records a company made while designing and testing its own parts and products: native CAD models with their feature tree, the drawings used to make the parts, and CAE results such as finite element, fluid and thermal runs, with their setups.

  • Complete records for each part or product: the requirement that started it, the native model and the manufacturing drawing.
  • Simulation setups and results, counted together with the design they belong to.
  • Machining programs and inspection or scan data, which add to a record where they exist.
  • A body of complete projects the company owns, not a handful of loose files.

What does not fit, or needs a flag first

  • Neutral exports on their own: they count only alongside the native files.
  • Designs a firm delivered to a client and does not own.
  • Generated or synthetic model sets, which are a different category and need a description of the collection first.
  • Export-controlled or defense designs are flagged at the description stage and go through a separate review.

How the review works

  1. Describe the records in words: what engineering records exist, the workflow history and who owns them.
  2. Send the description through the appraisal's Something else path. Include volume, years covered and who owns it.
  3. Tell us what it is. We review every submission by hand. The description goes to case-by-case review, and we reply within two business days.
  4. Share no project files until Rightmark asks for them. Specialist review comes first.

Know a company with engineering records?

If you know a company that designs and tests its own parts and products, you can introduce it as a Rightmark Scout. Rightmark decides fit at specialist review, so a Scout never tells the owner that the data fits.

Questions

Should I send CAD files or project archives now?

No. Start with a description in words of what engineering records exist, the workflow history and who owns them. Specialist review comes first, and no project files are requested or sent at this stage.

Do neutral exports count on their own?

No. Neutral exports count only alongside the native files from the original CAD tool, with the feature tree.

What about export-controlled or defense designs?

Say so in the description. Export-controlled or defense designs are flagged at the description stage and go through a separate review.
